A New Vantage on Life – A Shea Homeowner’s Story
Sep 7, 2018 • Phoenix Area, AZ
Shelley, a music professor and accomplished pianist and harpist, had lived off the Club West Golf Course in South Phoenix for 20 years. But two years ago, when her husband passed away and she moved to Kansas to help care for her mother, her living situation changed dramatically. When the time came to find a new home in Phoenix again, there were a few things she knew she wanted, and a few she knew she didn’t.
“I didn’t want a house,” Shelley says. “I didn’t want the yard work, the pool maintenance, didn’t want the rattlesnakes in the front yard.” That last may not be a usual feature on people’s don’t-want list, but after Shelley’s dog Tank barely survived a bite from the venomous reptile, it was an important consideration.“I wanted a condo with a view, and I wanted to be back in Ahwatukee. That’s where my friends are, where my church is.”
Shelley researched locations while still living in Kansas. One day she suddenly remembered a beautiful community she and her husband had toured while helping a Californian friend find a place to move: Vantage, by Shea Homes®.
Vantage had everything Shelley was looking for: the ideal location in the Ahwatukee foothills, beautiful cabinetry and appliances, as well as meticulously maintained landscape and pool that Shelley never has to lift a finger to care for.
“[The condo] feels like a house: three bedrooms, two and a half baths, two car garage. It’s the perfect size for me.”
Shelley got the residence she was hoping for, too. One of her balconies faces east, and another to the west giving her a bright and airy indoor/outdoor connection.
“Shea really stepped up to the plate and did everything that I asked. Korbin [Vantage’s community representative], was Johnny-on-the-spot. He helped me a great deal.” When Shelley was in Kansas and couldn’t get to Phoenix to tour the condo, Korbin FaceTimed Shelley for a detailed walkthrough of the space. “When I got here in person, it did not disappoint.”
That commitment didn’t stop when she signed on the dotted line. As a music instructor, there was no question that Shelley needed her grand piano in her condo. With pivoting up the stairs out of the question, the team took a page out of Walter Mitty’s playbook and brought the piano in through the balcony, with no small help from a crane.
Between the perfect location and surrounding area amenities, Shelley feels she’s gotten a new Vantage on life.
